Goal for the Week
Goal for the Week
Spent the day in Squamish at Alice Lake, so I was able to slip away for a quick training run on the Squamish 50k course including an ascent of Galactic Scheisse.
Josh and I have been wanting to get out on an adventure where I run and he bikes for a few weeks now. Today was the first day of vacation for me and the perfect time to do it!
Buckin' Hell is getting closer! In fact, it's just a few days away now and I am getting in my final, easy taper runs before the main event. Tonight saw me run around Rice Lake on an easy, sub-10k route to get the blood flowing.
As part of my tapering week, I decided to go for a little jaunt up the Grouse Grind. Nothing too difficult, just a nice easy climb to open up the legs and lungs in preparation for Saturday's race.
I ended this week with a big climbing day on Grouse Mountain which included two ascents of the Grouse Grind. I tried a couple of new trails on the way home and ran into a large black bear on the Baden Powell Trail.
After a big climb and descent yesterday, this route was the perfect test for my legs and a step closer to being ready for Buckin' Hell the weekend after next. Didn't feel at my best, but pushed through and finished the evening strongly.
A nice run up Lynn Peak today. Didn't want to go and made excuses for not doing all morning, but then after forcing myself out the door I PB'd on both the ascent and descent! Just goes to show people...
On a hot day with a long run of 30k planned, what better thing to do than stopping off at the Seymour River and go for a dip in the glacial meltwater! Well, that's what I did today with Juli Ann riding alongside on her bike!
A few mixed feelings about this run. I was supposed to be tapering for the trail marathon I have on Saturday, but then it looked like we weren't going to be able to get to the Island this morning.
Nice little recovery run after the Squamish 50 orientation yesterday. Felt some niggling issues in my knees and groin, but nothing to worry about I don't think.
