My son Josh had to have emergency surgery to remove his ruptured appendix last night. I stayed over at the hospital with him but didn’t really get any sleep. We were at the hospital until late afternoon today and by the time I got home and got myself sorted, it was almost 11:30pm by the time I got out for my run. I have to say, I was tempted to skip it, but I haven’t missed a run in the training plan yet and I really didn’t want to start now!

So, out I went in the middle of the night to hit the trails. The lateness of the hour made the whole thing feel a bit spookier than normal, but I got done what I needed to get done and felt pretty good about it after. Not sure how I’m going to feel when I wake up, especially since there’s another 12k to do and I’m dog tired right now. I hoping I’ll be able to get some good sleep, but only time will tell!

Since it was so late I was tempted to push hard and get it done more quickly, but I showed restraint and kept my heart rate in mostly zone 2, which is right where I want it to be.
